Using estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) to help manage patients with chronic kidney disease

چکیده
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been considered an uncommon condition requiring specialist management. The traditional view of CKD has been of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant as forms of renal replacement therapy (RRT). However the prevalence of CKD is much higher than previously appreciated and this has provided a stimulus to the integration of primary and secondary care to optimise the health of persons with CKD. In particular up to 40% of ESRD patients had been referred to specialists shortly before they needed dialysis. Such late referral often results in increased morbidity and mortality for patients and poor acceptance and planning for RRT.

Objective: This study was designed to investigate the effect of camel milk and Tarangabin (manna of Alhagi maurorum) combination therapy in addition to conventional treatments in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Material and Methods: Forty-four patients of 15 to 70 years old, with CKD due to hypertension or diabetes, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 15–60 ml...
متن کاملComparative Assessment of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) and Cystatin C as Early Biomarkers for Early Detection of Renal Failure in Patients with Hypertension
Background: Hypertension is one the most common causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD). One of the major concerns in hypertensive patients is early detection of renal disorders. In the past, serum creatinine (Scr) concentration was used as a marker of kidney function, but it proffers a late reflection of reduced glomerular filtration rate. Cystatin C and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocal...
متن کاملA critique of clinical guidelines for detection of individuals with chronic kidney disease.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its association with cardiovascular mortality is increasingly regarded as a global public health problem. International efforts to combat this 'epidemic' have led to fundamental changes not only in the way we measure renal function but also how we classify and manage CKD. Clinical guidelines have established the use of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)...
متن کاملAssociated Factors of Chronic Kidney Disease among Hyponatraemic Elderly Patients Attending a Primary Care Clinic
Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) emerges to be an important geriatric health issue. It may progress to end stage renal failure and affect the quality of life. However, little is known about the associated factors of CKD. So this study aimed to determine the associated factors of CKD among hyponatraemic elderly. Methods: This is a retrospective study of hyponatraemic patients aged ...
متن کاملCirculating CXCL16 in Diabetic Kidney Disease.
BACKGROUND/AIMS Chronic kidney disease and, specifically, diabetic kidney disease, is among the fastest increasing causes of death worldwide. A better understanding of the factors contributing to the high mortality may help design novel monitoring and therapeutic approaches. CXCL16 is both a cholesterol receptor and a chemokine with a potential role in vascular injury and inflammation. We aimed...
